Project Leader - Operability

Would you like to play a leading role in ensuring the operability of our most advanced submarine platforms? We currently have a vacancy for a Project Leader- Operability at our site in Barrow-in-Furness.

As a Project Leader- Operability, you will be responsible for project leading all aspects of the forward general arrangement and ship systems (including air, hydraulics, hover, air purification and various domestic systems) ensuring tasks are running on time and to quality and cost requirements. You will be working with the design team to ensure the submarine design accommodates features that will safely, effectively and efficiently deliver the submarines, to be operable by the crew in accordance within authorised operating documentation.

This role will provide you with a unique and exciting work environment, giving the opportunity to influence future designs for our state-of-the-art submarine fleets.

Your main responsibilities as a Project Leader- Operability will involve:

Managing task allocation within the team

Undertaking team Personal Development Plans and Performance Reviews

Writing, reviewing and approving complex reports

Standing in for Operability Manager when required

Providing appropriate input to Earned Value Monitoring and reporting

Managing a sub-team of Technical Operability staff - writing appraisal reports, developing career and

Personal Development Plans

Your skills and qualifications:


Operational knowledge serving on the Astute or Vanguard Class of Submarine in a senior leadership capacity

Demonstrable experience in a supervisory capacity, leading teams

Demonstrable experience in complex report writing and appraisal writing

Demonstrable experience in written and verbal communications to all levels of colleague from peers to senior management


Officer/senior rating with extensive submarine operating background

Maritime - Submarines
