A high profile trade association in a topical and newsworthy industry is looking for an outgoing, articulate and team-oriented Head of Marketing & Communications who can represent the company and its members to the media and multiple stakeholders.

Breakdown of key tasks:

PR and Marketing Communications strategy

  • Representing the company and its members externally, in support of the Chief Executive.
  • Producing annual objectives and performance targets for both internal and external communications that support and deliver against overall Association strategic objectives
  • Regular analysis and reporting on the Association's performance against communications targets (including website / social media performance, coverage analysis and AVE calculations)
  • Ensuring departmental staff / service providers / systems are working effectively to achieve these goals

Managing the Communications department's proactive and reactive media liaison activities:

  • Forming and maintaining positive relationships with media contacts
  • Operating a press office function
  • Responding to media enquiries
  • Issuing press releases
  • Organising press launches
  • Arranging press briefings / photo shoots

Managing external communications as part of overall communications strategy:

  • Managing PR / marketing campaigns for the Company's initiatives / announcements
  • Co-ordinating PR / marketing 'partnership campaigns' with related organisations
  • Managing PR / marketing campaigns for individual sections of membership
  • Liaising with contacts within the Company and its membership in order to develop and execute PR / marketing campaigns
  • Forming and maintaining positive relationships with contacts at external organisations
  • Organising PR events
  • Speech writing and presentations
  • Feature article writing
  • Liaison with freelance writers
  • 'Placement' of feature articles

Managing internal communications with member companies and Association staff:

  • Monthly e-newsletter
  • Regular reports to section meetings
  • Overall responsibility for the Association's website, including the members' area
  • Communicating breaking news
  • Informing members of PR / business opportunities
  • Informing members of the benefits of membership, new services etc.

Managing the graphic design function including the implementation and control of corporate branding:

  • Implementing corporate branding in communications materials
  • Ensuring that the corporate branding guidelines are followed
  • Promoting awareness of the Company's brand
  • Overseeing the work of the Brand and Marketing Executive with respect to design, brand, print and production, video editing and photography.

Managing content on the corporate website:

  • Overseeing development of corporate website
  • Content management, including liaison with relevant departments
  • Management of future amendments and additions
  • Regular analysis of SEO performance and site analytics / statistics
  • Management of the Association's social media presence, including ensuring that staff adhere to the Association's social media policy
  • Coordinating advertising sales, advertisement placement and renewals

Co-ordinating the production of directories / annual reviews / newsletters / promotional flyers and corporate literature:

  • Determining objective / demand
  • Establishing cost / benefit
  • Determining audience / appropriate medium
  • Project / agency management
  • Copywriting
  • Coordinating advertising sales (including agency management where relevant)

Managing market research projects:

  • Determining need, scope, cost, in liaison with colleagues where relevant
  • Co-ordinating research with members
  • Managing external market research agencies
  • Analysing results
  • Communicating / using results appropriately

Managing advertising expenditure:

  • Determining aims / objectives
  • Targeting appropriate audiences
  • Selecting appropriate mediums
  • Evaluating impact

Manage team activity to ensure the effective delivery of events:

  • Oversee the execution of the company's various awards schemes
  • Venue research, negotiation and liaison
  • Speaker liaison
  • Ensure all event paperwork is updated according to the Company's Quality Management system
