The successful Chemistry Teaching Assistant will spend the majority of their time working with GCSE pupils in Chemistry but there will be a requirement to work with A Level classes, depending on the demands of the curriculum. Due to the subjects on the curriculum it is essential that your degree will be in, or centred on, chemistry. Knowledge of additional sciences on top of your specialism will of course be put to good use in the department as will a sound understanding of Mathematical principles.

As a Chemistry Teaching Assistant you will be there to support the class teacher in any given topic, helping students grasp theories and gain a better understanding of learning objectives in science. In this varying role there will be time spent working with smaller groups, who may have difficulties in a given area as well as developing gifted and talented pupils.

This really is a varied role and requires patience, understanding and a desire to get the best out of all the pupils you're in contact with. Flexibility and hard work really is the key to becoming a successful Teaching Assistant.

If you're committed to a future in education as a science teacher and would like to put your knowledge to good use, then please email a copy of your CV to Ryan at i-teachers.
