Installation, configuration, maintenance and support of infrastructure and systems - specifically with the storage and server group. As mentioned, you'll facilitate and typically lead, the delivery of medium/large technical projects and complex work packages across the Microsoft server technology stack and VMware based virtualisation. In addition, you'll be asked to support, coach and mentor the more junior members of the team, not in a formal management capacity but leading by example. You'll have significant third party supplier liaison, mainly with hardware providers and the data centre estate.
Who are you, and what is your background?
Microsoft will be your technology provider of choice, and you'll be equally savvy with VMWare. This is a large scale environment with a lot of complexity so we think you'll be from an enterprise level background. The company are a strong believer, and supporter of formal accreditation and due to that, we'll think you will have invested in formal accreditation and be Microsoft certified (MCSE or MCSA) or VMWare certified (VCP).
Significant / Detailed knowledge is assumed for most of the following:
* Microsoft Server technologies; MS Server, MS Exchange/365, MS Lync, MS Clustering, Active Directory Services, Group Policy, Certificate Services, Windows Terminal Services, ADFS, DirectAccess
* Virtualisation technologies; VMware ESX Server
* VDI; VMware View/Horizon, Citrix
* Cloud technologies; Windows Azure, Office 365
This is the storage and server team, so ideally:
*Storage technologies: NAS, SAN, ISCSI, Fibre Channel Switches etc.
Environment experience should be large / enterprise level infrastructures and strong incident and problem management ability is needed - both internally and via 3rd parties.
This is an ITIL environment so we'd be hoping for exposure / knowledge within a commercial environment and ideally, being a V3 practitioner or intermediate.
We have flexibility on working hours between 7am and 6pm, and while common sense and business practise will come into play, the chance is likely there to work a "Shift" between these hours, or rotate with colleagues on a week by week basis. There is no formal on call as yet, but this may come into place on a paid basis in the future, with likely rota being one week in six.
The company are a strong believer in training, and as such would encourage the infrastructure engineers to advance in their chosen field, and would be happy by way of paying for exams by way of a ring fenced training budget, and allowing leave time for study.
