Management Accountant

My client is an established engineering SME, based close to J34 of the M1.

A high calibre, experienced Management Accountant is required to have overall responsibility for the accounting, reconciliations and financial reporting of the business, including preparing detailed cash flow forecasts, forecasting, annual budgeting, preparing year-end accounts & audit and ensuring legal, tax and financial compliance. Reporting to the managing director, you will manage one accounts assistant and bring a natural can-do attitude and the flexibility to help with whatever is required.

Key Elements of the Role:

The purpose of the Management Accountant role is to ensure the timely and accurate production of management information, budgets and forecasts. This will include:

?Producing information leading to monthly management accounts;

?Compiling and monitoring the annual internal budgets;

?Working with the Senior teams on forecasting and re-forecasting, profiling and re-profiling of all contracts

?Presenting management information to the Board.

Main Responsibilities:

?Producing monthly management accounts;

?Budgeting and forecasting;

?Balance sheet and cashflow;

?Producing regular financial reporting;

?Cost control and analysis of variance;

?KPI reporting and analysis;

?VAT returns;

?Posting of month end and ad hoc journals;

?Preparing and controlling the monthly payroll;

?Preparing orders and sales reports;

?Identifying and implementing improvements in the financial processes and controls;

?Posting of reoccurring entries;

?Banking of cheques;

?Producing sales invoices;

?Checking aged creditors;

?Bank reconciliations;

?Reconciling company credit card and petty cash;

?Maintaining the fixed asset register;

?Posting for balance sheet and profit and loss depreciation;

?Preparing ?what if? scenarios as the company works towards excellence and High Growth;

?In-depth Financial Planning and forecasting;

?Support the Senior Management team with any ad hoc project work;

Person Specification

Customer focused with high individual standards and ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualified/finalist or equivalent with experience of financial and management accounting preferably in the SME sector. Able to demonstrate clear ability to work on own initiative, create, contribute to and lead a team with a high level of computer literacy, with advanced Excel skills.


This is a commercially aware role involving developing relationships with non-finance managers and providing strategic input into forward planning. To provide total financial management to the company ensuring financial control & reporting standards are maintained.

Skills and Experience:

?Experience of working for an SME

?Solid understand of financial management

?Good working knowledge of Sage Line 50

?Excellent Excel skills and MS Office skills in Word and PowerPoint

?Good Reporting skills

?Experience in working at Management Level

?Strong communicator & relationship builder ? able to communicate with non-finance colleagues

?Be extremely hands-on in production of financial processes

?Excellent numeracy and financial awareness

?Ability to deliver to tight deadlines

?Proactive in making business improvements

Salary: £35-40,000 plus benefits
