School of Energy, Geoscience, Infrastructure & Society Research Accountant £31,604 - £38,883 Ref: IRC11869 Closing Date: 19th November 2017 The Research Accountant is based full time on the Edinburgh campus and is a key post in the School’s Finance team, working closely with the Finance Manager and alongside the existing Administrators (Finance) to support research and consultancy finance within the School. The role of Research Accountant is to provide financial administration and management accounting support in all areas of research and consultancy within the School. The post-holder’s responsibility is to ensure that the School’s academic teams adhere to the financial practices and statutory legislation of funding bodies by advising the research teams of the financial implications of any decisions they make. The role will provide financial information on research and consultancy projects required by the School’s Management Group in order that long term strategic decisions can be made regarding the research and consultancy work carried out. The post-holder, alongside the Finance Manager, will be responsible for month and year-end balance sheet accuracy and integrity. The prime function of the post will be to provide academic staff within the School with direct and indirect support in managing the financial records of research and consultancy projects, to ensure that they are handled as efficiently as possible and ensuring maximum recovery of costs to the University. The post-holder’s responsibility is to ensure that the School’s research and consultancy teams adhere to the financial practices and statutory legislation of funding bodies by advising the research teams of the financial implications of any decisions they make. The post-holder will be required to liaise closely with other members of the School’s Finance Team as well as other professional service teams across the university (e.g. the School’s Research & Knowledge Exchange Support team and Staff Office, the central Research Grants Office (RGO) and Research & Enterprise Services (RES) etc.) to ensure that all duties are seamlessly covered and an excellent service is provided to both staff and students.
