Payroll and Pensions Officer
£25,728 to £29,799 per annum

Peritus Plus are pleased to consider applications for the position of Payroll and Pensions Officer in Cambridge.

Working in a College finance team, this position is responsible for the operation and management of the three College payrolls; for Fellows, Staff and Pensioners and deals with all the monthly and annual returns, statutory reporting to HMRC and pension administration.

The College has an in-house payroll operation and currently utilises Mercury payroll software. It also utilises University based systems CamCORS and CASC PPS system and Sage200 for Accounting.


  • Operation and management of the College?s payroll systems totalling an approximate head count of 270 to ensure accurate payments to Fellows, staff and pensioners on a monthly basis.
  • Liaising with HMRC, utilising RTI as appropriate, on all issues including but not limited to tax and NI related matters.
  • Primary point of contact with the College?s Pension providers and responsible for all administration of the pension schemes including auto enrolment.
  • Completing surveys and providing reports and statistics to key personnel in Finance, HR and external bodies in an accurate and timely fashion.
  • Managing all pay related issues including but not limited to statutory and nonstatutory payments
  • Managing the pay related elements of schemes including but not limited to the Cycle to Work Scheme, the Childcare Voucher Scheme and membership of the College Gym.
  • Managing the separate system dealing with pay related elements of Fellows? pay relating to supervisions and teaching.
  • Managing expenses payments and administering staff overtime in liaison with heads of department.
  • Preparing and sending out monthly bills to Fellows and ensuring payment of amounts due.
  • Management of Fellows? academic and entertainment allowances.
  • Providing cover and support in the finance office.
  • The above is not an exhaustive list of duties. The post-holder may be asked to take on different tasks as required and all employees are expected to work collaboratively to support the overall work of the College.

Qualifications Required:

  • Knowledge of full payroll life cycle
  • Knowledge of manual calculations , tax and Ni deductions
  • Knowledge of current payroll legislation.
  • Excellent skills in Excel and Word and the use of computerised payroll systems
  • Membership of the CiPP (Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals)
