Research & Development Engineer - Portsmouth - c£43,000pa
A leading specialist engineering company located in Portsmouth are currently recruiting for a Research & Development Engineer to join their growing team on a permanent basis.
The Research & Development Engineer will be responsible for both upgrading existing products and for the development of new ones from design concept to implementation. The position will require daily interaction with other team members including the project and Product Managers, other engineers and engineering groups, suppliers and manufacturing groups, and associates in the scientific laboratory services department to meet the growth objectives associated with the portfolio.
Bachelor or Master degree in engineering, preferably mechanical, electro-mechanics, design
Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience
Experience with project management ( in an R&D environment a benefit)
Strong technical problem solving skills
Experience with prototyping techniques
Fluency in written and spoken English (company language)
Be autonomous whilst being a team player
Be solution driven with strong sense of urgency
Very good reporting skills (written and spoken), adjusted to your audience
Willingness to occasionally travel to visit suppliers and customers.
Knowledge of machine design or knowledge of design of plastic components
Knowledge of 3D CAD program (SolidWorks/Inventor)
Knowledge of strength calculations via software simulation is an asset
Knowledge of process, equipment and component validation
Knowledge of EC machinery directive is a plus
Basis in automation
Use of 6-sigma tools is a plus
