Due to expansion a new role has arisen for a Technical Support Engineer to work as a technical expert within a small UK team in the Telecoms Industry. This role offers the excitement of working for a small, agile company where you can become involved in high level projects without the big corporate constraints of departmental structure and rigid processes.

The company is a leading manufacturer of broadband access solutions. The product portfolio includes flexible and robust multi-service access platforms, as well as stand-alone transmission solutions. Their access platforms support a variety of voice and data services via copper or fibre optic cable. The systems combine Ethernet/IP and traditional ATM/TDM and SDH/PDH technology. This guarantees efficient migration of legacy connection-driven technologies to packet-based Next-Generation Networks.

This is a Monday to Friday role with no real overtime necessary, so if you are looking for a better work/life balance this may be the role for you. Some travel will be required within the UK and to the HQ offices in Europe.

As Technical Support Engineer you will be responsible for: -

  • providing high level product support to the customer base;
  • assisting the sales team with pre-sales activities and become the local technical expert for the existing and future products in the company portfolio;
  • designing and implementing product demonstrations;
  • supporting customer acceptance tests, and occasionally providing hands on training for customer engineers;
  • responding to customer support requests and, being their local point of contact, undertaking fault analysis and replication where possible;
  • liaising with other members of the global Technical Sales Support team and R&D to identify and resolve product faults and implement temporary and permanent solutions.

To be a successful Technical Support Engineer you will have the following skills and experience:

  • • Degree or equivalent in Telecommunications or a similar engineering field;
    • Previous experience with a telecom equipment vendor and/or network operator or equivalent experience;
    • Hands on experience with access platforms (MSAN/DSLAM/Multiplexors);
    • Technical understanding of PDH/SDH/DSL/POTS/FTTx/Ethernet/IP;
    • Experience with NMS systems, (UNIX and Windows);
    • Team player and customer service orientated with excellent written and spoken English.
In return, the Technical Support Engineer will receive a generous salary of £40k - £50k negotiable.
