Job objectives and responsibilities

Under the overall management of the Partnership manager, to effectively lead, manage and control the workforce working across the Electrical Testing and planned contracts, ultimately maintain compliancy of Crawley Properties. Managing the branch electrical QS and electricians to ensure correct work flows are followed demonstrating efficiency, compliancy and value for money delivery.

Our client has a clear expectation that MITIE will deliver an exemplar service through effective partnership working and delivery of integrated repairs, gas and planned programmes of work.

The post holder will be required to work closely with the senior management team and Commercial Team as well as the client?s management team together with tenant representatives to take overall responsibility in ensuring the delivery of those operational objectives and service improvement objectives. The Manager will continue to foster a partnered working approach in taking responsibility for the operational delivery of the works assigned to you.

Main duties

  • Provide general advice and technical assistance to all areas of the business.
  • Liaise with NICEIC and manage the registrations for all the registered engineers and sub-contractors, maintain all necessary procedures in all locations.
  • Regularly audit procedures and provide regular compliancy reports to the senior management team.
  • Ensure all staff have access to and are properly briefed on technical updates and highlight any training needs.
  • In conjunction with HR and local management ensure that the NICEIC Registers are properly managed with all engineers and electricians properly registered, removed as necessary and that they are suitably qualified.
  • Quality audit directly employed electricians and Subcontractors.
  • To liaise with the Planned & Responsive repairs Manager where cross over of services are required.
  • Compose monthly reports on the status of compliancy under your management for inclusion in both Branch and core reports.
  • Produce and present weekly contract performance results
  • Manage and monitor the service to ensure delivery improvement through the use of measures, including but not limited to end to end time, number of visits, cost per job, first time fix?.
  • Fully utilise MITIE IT & communication systems as well as MS Office to undertake tasks to the highest standards
  • To be the lead on PDA development and management for compliance work flows, operative manuals and training for electrical work streams.
  • Assist the QHSE team in the investigation of any incidents, accidents or near-misses as required and advice the team of changes to legislation, policy or procedures.
  • Manage, respond to, and analyse complaints, develop and implement improvements that will reduce volume and pattern of complaints and improve quality of service. Undertake investigations, collect and present evidence as required.
  • Advise managers as required on all third-party governance inspection findings and develop/implement actions to ensure any remedial requirements are closed off.
  • To liaise with clients and their representatives to ensure their requirements are understood and all contract requirements met.
  • Assist in the compliance vetting of new electrical sub-contractors.
  • Induct all employees into the team ensuring that you adhere to MITIE policies and procedures.
  • Carry out regular Tool box talks for H&S, Quality and process improvement.
  • Maintain and update the operative?s skill matrix, provide information to upskill workforce.
  • Ensure HR policies and procedures are implemented and monitored, working closely with and seeking guidance from the HR team as appropriate regarding ongoing policies and initiatives.
  • Carry out annual appraisals to operational staff.
  • Carry out HR investigations and disciplinary?s where necessary in line with MITIE policies and procedures.
  • Carry out back to work interviews following periods of absence from operatives.
  • Be first contact for operatives when arranging annual leave.
  • To identify, develop and implement innovative solutions for the business.
  • To liaise with clients and their representatives to ensure their requirements are understood and all contract requirements met.
  • To operate in a confidential and professional manner
  • To comply in all regards with the company?s objectives in relation to quality assurance, procedures and systems
  • To assist in the development of Construction Phase Health and Safety Plans, and to ensure that it is approved by the Principal Designer acting on behalf of our client
  • To ensure that all accidents/incidents are reported in line with our policies and where required to the HSE, and carry out accident/incident investigations in order to prevent re-occurrence of similar accidents
  • To ensure all MITIE operatives are abiding by MITIE employee handbook and vehicle policy.
  • To recruit new operatives in line with demand and MITIE procedures.
  • To take responsibility for the development of our trainees and apprentices to ensure they are given adequate support from the organization and their mentor.
  • Regularly travel to and participate in site, project team, customer forum and evening meetings, as required.
  • Support with the organisation and management of the OOH call rota where necessary.
  • Assist in the review of MPM compliancy procedures.
  • To undertake additional duties in line with capabilities as required

Person Specification

  • You will have a full, detailed and working customer focussed expertise in the construction and maintenance sector.
  • You will have excellent leadership skills.
  • You will have experience and technical knowledge electrical regulations.
  • You will have a good understanding of quality assurance and compliancy regimes.
  • You will understand and take responsibility for the fact that this role is pivotal to the successful management of electrical compliance.
  • You will be able to independently manage the team, be customer focused, forward thinking and professional.
  • You will have excellent communication skills and be a ?people person?.
  • You will have a real ?can do? attitude with an eye for detail and be able to transmit and encourage that attitude.
  • You will have excellent IT skills to be able to effectively work with spread sheets to analyse data enabling you to manage and control your area.
  • It is highly desirable that you possess relevant surveying, technical or trade qualifications.
  • It is desirable that you have management experience for a customer focussed and commercially astute service contractor within a Social Housing environment.
