Sitec have an interesting requirement for our client Perkins Engines, at their site in Peterborough. They are currently recruiting for a VBS Developer. This is a contract role for an estimated 12 months.
Perkins Engines, a subsidiary of Caterpillar, is a major manufacturer of heavy duty off-highway diesel engines for the construction, industrial and power generation sectors. With continuous innovation and developments in satellite and GSM technology, many off-highway engines can now be equipped with hardware to automatically collect engine data to support engineering and in-field engine validation.
The global feet of telematics-enabled engines can used by Product Support Engineers to help determine the root cause of engine and/or machine related issues, by Validation Engineers to approve the release of new ECU software and by Data Scientists to track trends in machine usage. To maximise value, the data is to be automatically processed (cleansed, standardised), summarised (statistical metrics calculated) and indexed (made searchable). Server-side software is utilised to process raw data as it arrives, hence making the enriched data available to engineers, without the need for any manual intervention.
We have an exciting opportunity for a VBS developer to help build and expand our data processing capabilities. This new role will include the development of complex scripts from a library of functions to automatically process engine data as it arrives on the server, performing calculations and writing Meta data from the results. The role may also include continuous improvement of library functions, including statistical analysis, and development of graphical user interfaces.
The applicant will have excellent Visual Basic or Visual Basic Scripting skills with prior commercial experience of VB/VBS development on server applications. Prior experience of SQL coding, database manipulation, and administration is also required. The applicant will be self-motivated and able to communicate effectively within an engineering team.
Experience in Visual Studio, R and Python would be highly advantageous, as would experience of reading from and writing to multiple file formats, including HDF5 and XML.
* Industrial / commercial experience in Visual Basic / VBS scripting
* Solid understanding of statistics and statistical analysis
* SQL scripting
* Bachelors or Master's science degree (Information Technology / Computer programming / Engineering / Physics or equivalent)
* Python coding
* R coding
* Pattern Matching (awk, grep, perl, regular expressions)
* Prior experience with HDF5 format files
* Prior experience with XML format files
* Knowledge of diesel engine technology
