Software Engineering Lead

We are looking for a Java Expert to join an exciting company in the heart of Manchester and lead a team of developers to create cutting edge technology.

The company is part of one of the largest e-commerce groups in the world. They are in the middle of a digital transformation and have plenty of exciting opportunities

They also have just launched a completely new greenfield product separate from their main business. This part of the company has only got about 25 developers and has a real start-up feel while still having the technical and financial backing from the main company.

It's quite an exciting time to join this part of the company as they have a lot of logical and technical problems waiting to be solved by some experienced engineers like you! This part of the company is also completely cloud-based - a lot of potential to create an industry leading software solution!

This role would offer you:

Your key responsibilities:

  • First off, working in what's been voted the coolest offices in Manchester, but other than that...
  • Take the lead on design and development of features
  • Be a technology evangelist
  • Design and develop reusable libraries, APIs and code that are easy to maintain, understand and re-use
  • Supporting live products in a DevOps environment

Skills we are looking for

  • Highly Proficient with the use of Java
  • Solid understanding of web development and web technologies
  • Highly proficient in writing good quality object-oriented code using that is simple, fast under load and robust
  • MVC or Spring
  • Good experience of Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery and Agile
  • Solid understanding of major browsers (including dev tools) and platforms (Linux, AWS)
  • Quality first mind-set for writing code using techniques such as TDD, BDD or Agile
