Rolling Stock Technician

Role overview
Rolling Stock Technician required, (Night Shift) to carry out preventative and corrective maintenance on Rolling Stock.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Attend faults as requested by the Control Room Technician on to minimise the effect of failures on recorded reliability for the purpose of Franchise Management.
  • Carry out routine maintenance and testing of Rolling Stock equipment in an efficient manner, following standard procedures and safety instructions under the direction of the Team Leader.
  • Diagnose the cause of failures to Rolling Stock equipment and rectify them in an efficient manner following standard procedures and safety instructions.
  • Carry out safety checks on vehicles and attend to any defects.
  • Operate the electronic Asset control system.
  • Undertake routine maintenance and modification.
  • Ensure that there is a constant awareness of availability of vehicles at all times and that all staff are briefed accordingly.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Relevant experience within the railway industry and possess a City & Guilds qualification in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or NVQ2. Must have a sound ability in fault finding and practical problem solving.
  • The ability to communicate effectively, explaining the cause and effect of the status and failure of equipment and assets, to all levels of the organisation.
  • Full current driving licence.
  • Confident, persuasive and professional approach.
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality and display tact, diplomacy and discretion at all times.
  • Flexibility to meet requirements of shift workers.
  • Reliable and Punctual.
  • Able to change shifts within due notice
