MIS Data and Reporting Officer

Point 30 to 32 on the salary scale for Support Staff £25,368 rising to £26,918 per annum

MIS Manager

Normally 37 hours per week but commensurate on completing the duties associated with the post.


  • Ensure external Data returns are error free and accurate before submission
  • Produce and maintain a variety of complex reports for internal and external parties as required by Curriculum and Management staff
  • MIS system development and maintenance
  • Maintain course structure within MIS system
  • Support MIS manager


  • Create and maintain a variety of simple or complex reports in a variety of formats and reporting methodologies for internal and external use maintaining a log and documentation of these in a standard format

  • Perform complex MIS & ancillary system upgrades at appropriate times to fit in with business needs after appropriate testing and documentation generation or maintenance

  • Lead on the day to day MIS finance administration and maintenance and aid in generation of procedure and process manuals

  • Aid with learner/staff timetables and enrolments changes

  • Develop current and new areas of the MIS system including associated reports, documentation and the training of staff in these systems at a level appropriate to the audience

  • Keep up to date with funding guidance and new developments in the education sector and apply changes to processes and procedures promptly where necessary

  • Creating and maintaining periodically reviewed documentation for reports, applications and processes used within MIS or disseminated to other staff e.g. Pro-Achieve, Columbus, Enrolment processes

  • Deal with user queries as required e.g. user access, report requests

  • Attend internal and external meetings and training relevant to the role passing on data to MIS staff and take part in making changes to policies and procedures as a result of this

  • Carry out such other tasks from time to time as required by the Principal

Person Specification

The following qualifications, qualities, skills and experience are considered necessary in this key post:

Skills and Qualification

  • A degree in a relevant subject
  • Level 2 in Maths and English
  • Excellent IT skills to at least level 3 or relevant experience and a proven ability to use and adapt quickly to new technology
  • Evidence of a good general standard of education.
  • Excellent Word, Access and Excel skills
  • Understanding of relational database methodology, design and query construction
  • SQL query design
  • Working within the UK education sector in the MIS sphere
  • Unit-e and Pro-achieve
  • Basic understanding of current UK funding methodology
  • The ability to effectively communicate technical knowledge to an audience with a range of technical understanding
  • Excellent verbal, written communication skills and attention to detail
  • Capacity for working under pressure and to prioritise work and meet required deadlines
  • Ability to act on own initiative as well as part of a team
  • Flexibility in coping with a wide range of tasks and future developments
  • The ability to learn new skills within the scope of MIS
  • Patience, tolerance and ability to work well with individuals and diverse teams
