IT Support Analyst

Full Time:

The appointment will be on UCL Grade 7. The salary range will be £34,635 - £41,864 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.

The Cancer Research UK and UCL Cancer Trials Centre (CTC) is part of the Cancer Institute at University College London. It is one of the largest academic cancer trials centres in the UK, with about 80 staff conducting over 70 clinical trials. The majority of staff are funded on Cancer Research UK programme or project grants, while some are wholly or partly funded by pharmaceutical industry support. The CTC IT network is situated within the UCL campus with support for external connectivity and communications being provided by UCL Information Services Division (ISD). The CTC local network is mainly comprised of Microsoft Windows servers and a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) all hosted on a VMware ESXi virtualisation infrastructure. There are also a number of physical servers that reside outside of the virtualisation environment.
These systems are all exclusively managed by the CTC IT department. We currently have a number of SQL (/2008, 2012 and 2014) servers that host all of the centre's trial databases. This is accessed via a number of front end applications which include MS Access, Macro (a database system specifically designed for clinical trials by Elsevier) and various web based systems. We are currently expanding the web based services that we offer to centres that recruit patients, the latest being online randomisation and sample tracking.
Reporting to the IT Network Manager, the post-holder will be required to carry out day-to-day IT support related duties. He/she will assist in the maintenance and development of the IT infrastructure to ensure that they provide an efficient and cost effective service to all users. The role holder will also log and respond to user support queries. The post holder will benefit from continued professional development through external training providers (QA.com and Learning Tree). Other benefits include a generous pension scheme and 27 days annual leave plus University closure days and Bank Holidays (14 in total). The post is offered as an open-ended contract and is initially funded on a 5 year programme grant.

The postholder will have proven experience in administering Windows server and client systems in a networked environment, along with Experience in specifying and documenting user requirements and testing procedures. The postholder should also ahve knowledge of Office 2013/2016, MS operating systems including Server 2008/2012/2016, Windows 7 and Windows 10 and be able to demonstrate experience of working with common Windows applications at a 1st and 2nd line level. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as documentation writing skills are essential. Knowledge of MS SQL Server, IIS and other web technologies and a working knowledge of server and desktop virtualisation technologies, primarily VMware vSphere and Horizon View technologies would be desirable.
