Job Outline:

A leading manufacturer of Fibre and Optical Systems is now looking for a Fibre Optic Laser Engineer to join their rapidly expanding team.

Your main responsibilities will be to lead the design and development of new fibre-optic modules, laser terminal systems, amplifiers and receivers, including the coordination of product development and R&D projects.

Working within a multidisciplinary team of engineers you will develop cutting-edge products for space and aerospace applications.

This is a hands on development role which will require you to project manage new product developments, exploiting fibre optic and opto-electronic components to develop cutting edge products.

You will be working within multidisciplinary teams including mechanical, electronic and optical engineers to deliver results.

Develop and execute on test plans for prototype systems and functional and environmental verification of photonic systems in space environment.

Working from the Devon offices, there will be requirements to visit other sites, this is expected to be less than 5% of the time.


As the successful candidate you will be qualified to Degree Level or Higher in Physics or Engineering, with a specialisation in Photonics.


As the successful candidate you will have a track record developing photonic systems, including module and system integration of fiber-optic, opto-electronic and electronic components.

You should also have expertise on design and development of fiber-optic and free-space transmission systems (analog, digital, coherent).

Knowledge on testing and qualification of components and sub-systems based on Telcordia, MIL-STD or ESCC / ECSS is preferred, although not essential.

You should have at least 5 years experience in product development of photonic modules and systems.

Candidates with a strong background in space technologies will be given preference.
