Applications Engineer (Projects & Process)

Are you a process driven individual or project engineer that wants to move into a more customer focussed position with a company that are investing significantly in the UK based resource pool??

Our client provide infrastructure support services including design and build solutions and supply of mission critical mechanical products to the water sector. All of the products are designed, manufactured, installed and maintained within the same business allowing them to be SME?s for their products. Having everything in house also improves their training capabilities allowing new employees to see the design through to manufacture and then delivery and installation.

Typically products include biological process technology, water treatment products and wastewater treatment products such as:

  • Activated Sludge
  • Sequencing Batch Reactors
  • Aeration retrofits
  • Chemical dosing systems
  • Pumping solutions
  • Tanks and pipe work solutions
  • Inlet screens
  • Storm tipping buckets
  • Rotary aerators
  • Flight and chain scrapers

With group revenues in excess of $100 million and a direct workforce of nearly 400 employees, this well established, family owned business are really in a position to grow even further and this position is critical for the UK growth plans.

  • Salary - £30-£35k per annum ? Possibly more DOE - £40K OTE

Key Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience in a Project engineering or Process engineering position
  • Engineering or science degree, HND or equivalent
  • Minimum two years? postgraduate experience in a project engineering, technical sales/support or applications/R&D role within the utilities sector and/or M&E engineering environment.
  • Experience within the UK water industry is a distinct advantage.
  • Able to demonstrate an ability to work on multiple projects or initiatives simultaneously.
  • Advanced MS Office skills with the ability to analyse and manipulate data sets.
  • Report writing skills.
  • Good communication skills, able to interact effectively with Clients and colleagues.
  • Strong analytical and interpretive skills, ability to deliver data in a user friendly and relevant manner.
  • Organisational skills with a commitment to the role and a keen eye for detail.
  • Willingness to travel nationwide


Applications Engineer (Projects & Process)

Daily tasks and general responsibilities:

Technical Applications:

  • Supporting the Technical Manager in the development of new solutions and technologies.
  • Assessment of third party technologies.
  • Developing the technical offering for certain new market initiatives.
  • Technical report writing.

Project Delivery Support:

  • Providing local/regional assistance to project teams for site visits, meetings, etc. ? mostly in the Thames, Southern and Wessex areas.
  • Be willing to manage or co-manage certain low-value or local projects.
  • Producing case studies of some completed projects.

Business Development Support:

  • Visiting client sites as part of the information gathering process.
  • Drafting of proposal documents using specifications and pricing provided by others.
  • Reviewing proposals drafted by others and editing/formatting prior to submission.
  • Attending (or arranging for others to attend) Client meetings during the bidding process.
  • Assisting with project handovers between the Business Development and Contracts teams.
  • Assisting the Business Development Manager in preparing regional export strategies.
  • Researching and presenting market intelligence for existing and potential target export markets.

Other Duties:

  • Attend Contracts Team and Business Development Team meetings, in person or remotely.
  • Attendance at certain meetings or industry events on behalf of the Business Development Manager and/or Technical Manager.
  • Mind the Alton office when other workers are away or on leave.
  • Other duties as may arise from time to time that are consistent with the job-holder?s knowledge and skills, and are needed to effectively perform the role.
