This company is looking to further expand their multi-disciplinary surveying and planning team with the appointment of an Assistant Planner/Planning Technician. The successful candidate can expect to take on a varied workload through assisting the professional planning staff in the preparation of pre-applications and planning applications for rural development along with residential, commercial and leisure developments. Ideally candidates will have a completed a degree (or equivalent) in planning, land/estate management, architecture, construction management, social sciences or a related field and will have a minimum of two years experience of working in a professional planning or related field environment. Duties may include: - To provide technical assistance and information to staff, with tasks including the submission of prior notification applications and the discharge and variation of planning conditions; - Perform routine office tasks, including data entry, file management, copying and answering telephone; - Briefing and the project management of external Technical Consultants; - Develop and maintain automated tracking systems, hard copy files and records; - Research and compile information on a variety of planning issues from multiple sources; - Prepare site location plans, maps, charts, tables of limited complexity; - Investigate relevant planning policies and planning site history which may include site visits; - Attend meetings, assisting professional planning staff as appropriate. Skills and Knowledge: - Knowledge of planning policies, principles and practices, including rural planning and development within the Green Belt; - Knowledge of principles and practices of research and data collection; - Effective writing techniques and the ability to write concise reports; - Mathematical and statistical knowledge and ability to apply such knowledge in practical situations; - Knowledge of computer hardware and software programs, which may include Microsoft Office, Internet applications, and GIS; - Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills; - Ability to review and interpret plans and drawings; - Ability to work on several projects or issues simultaneously; - Ability to work independently or in a team environment as needed; - Maintain an up to date knowledge of UK planning legislation; - A driving licence is essential. The offer: - The position is full time (minimum 37.5 hours per week - Monday to Friday). - The salary is subject to the candidates experience within a range of £18k to £25K, with an annual review. - Position is subject to 6 month probationary period. - Mileage expenses will be paid at the maximum allowable rate (currently £0.45 per mile). - Pension scheme.
