Head of Accountancy / Senior Accountant / Finance Director
Job Title: Head of Accountancy
Salary: £48,278 - £52,978 per annum
Job Type: Full Time, Permanent
Closing Date: 27/11/2017 at 12:00pm
This is a rare opportunity for an ambitious accountant wishing to progress their career. Whilst a great initial role, for the right candidate this position also has clear scope for future advancement to director level.
The Council is an exceptional place to develop your career. It is in a good financial shape and offers a friendly and supportive workplace culture.
Their finance service is well regarded but they recognise it needs to evolve if it is to successfully meet the challenges ahead and provide the best possible service to all their stakeholders. Greater rigour and responsiveness, along with improved standardisation of processes, are now needed. They wish to better harness technology and ensure they are more outcome focused. They are not seeking to radically change their services - their customers value what they do - they wish to retain what is good and build on this solid platform of success.
This is an influential role in which we will be looking to you to bring fresh ideas to drive the service forward. They will expect you to take the lead in a wide breadth of council finances including their Medium Term Financial Plan. You will deputise as Section 151 Officer and provide clear leadership to a large professional team - enabling them to be the best they can.
In addition to being able to hone your professional skill set across the spectrum of local government finances, this diverse role will allow you to take on a broader scope of corporate work to help shape the council's future, as well as develop your career.
They would expect you to be an experienced qualified accountant (not necessarily from the public sector) with excellent communication and leadership skills. You will have the ability to manage a large team facing a number of ambitious challenges and will assist the council in its wider desire to improve and modernise.
You will need to be able to cope with the complexity of local authority finance, but what's equally important to them is that you can demonstrate their corporate values, and that you are proactive and optimistic, with integrity as well as technical expertise. You will be the council's deputy S151 officer in this role, but they're thinking ahead and ideally seeking a candidate that has the potential to progress to director level.
About the Council
Located in East Lancashire, you are only ever a short distance from beautiful rolling countryside, yet within an hour or so reach of Manchester, Warrington, Liverpool, Bradford and Leeds. The stunning Lake District and the bright lights of Blackpool are also within easy reach. You will find a fantastic choice of places to live both around the immediate area and further afield. House prices are well below the national average: typically around £100k less nationally and £400k less compared to London.
Located in their council offices in Accrington you will benefit from free onsite parking. Accrington station is also a short walk away.
Hyndburn is a great place to work and the role comes with a fantastic benefits package, including a defined benefit pension scheme and car allowance. They value their friendly and supportive workplace culture, encourage staff to develop their skills and promote flexible working.
The post requires a standard DBS check and is politically restricted.
