iSolutions is the largest group within Professional Service for the University of Southampton and is responsible for delivery, supporting, innovating the Universities computer services,
in collaboration with the other groups within Professional services.

This position is an opportunity to join the Business Intelligence -Integration Team who are largely responsible for the data exchange between corporate systems hosted both internally and externally.

The role of BI specialist includes:

  • To be responsible for the day to day delivery of integration solutions, their maintenance, enhancements and support of the originating and recipient sources system upgrades
  • To be able to design and implement new integration solutions for the various university projects
  • To set up automated testing frameworks for regression testing and investigate the use of automated deployment scripts for developments
  • To facilitate and manage the complete end-to-end lifecycle of BI development, from requirement gathering, analysis and data modelling in SQL through to application design, testing, sign-off and deployment
  • To take a lead role in developing SQL and other BI-related skillsets within the wider Reporting & Business Intelligence Team to underpin resilience and business continuity

The successful candidate will:

  • Have a good understanding of data sets for querying with SQL (Oracle, MySQL, SQL Server etc.)
  • Able to read and decipher existing code and to be able to write concise, robust re-usable code for new implementations
  • Be confident in exploring the internet to resolve issues
  • Keen to acquire new skills.
