Hays are delighted to be working with North Wales Police to recruit a Financial Accountant for their high performing finance team at Police Headquarters in Colwyn Bay.

Your New Company

North Wales Police covers the whole of North Wales, including the counties of Isle of Anglesey, Gwynedd, Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire and Wrexham. . Serving a population of 687,800 people, it has around 1,450 police officers and 250 police community support officers along with 800 staff.

Your New Role

As a senior member of the Finance Department, within the Finance and Resources Service, you will have responsibility for securing financial stewardship, enabling transformation and supporting performance by ensuring proper management of the Forces finances and resources. This is to be achieved by providing strategic direction, leadership, quality of service, professional advice, accountability and ensuring efficiency and effectiveness in specific areas. You will be part of the Finance Department’s management team and will manage and direct a team of 4 staff.

Your areas of lead responsibility will be Financial Accounting including the production of the annual Statement of Accounts, Financial Governance, Capital Accounting, Accounting for Grants and the setting of the precept.

You will also be required to provide advice to service areas on financial issues.

What you’ll need to succeed

You’ll be a qualified accountant (ACA, CIPFA, CIMA, ACCA) with significant expertise of preparing financial accounts and year end accounting. It would be advantageous if you have experience of Local Government accounting, or if you have worked within a public services organisation.

Your strong Excel skills will be used to produce a variety of reports and analyse data.

As an experienced leader of staff, you will have the skills to motivate, develop, and lead a team.
