Our client has a permanent vacancy for a part time Legal Secretary to join their family/matrimonial team in Northampton. They are flexible on hours - but looking for around 20-25 hours per week -to suit.

The Role

·To deliver practical services of outstanding quality that are focused on the client's needs.

·To type correspondence (letters, faxes and e-mails) with emphasis on confidentiality to clients etc using the system with particular emphasis on proof reading and accuracy.

·To compose basic correspondence under the supervision of the solicitor. Drafting own correspondence. To prioritise workload and work unsupervised in solicitor's absence.

·To type/complete legal documents.

·To answer the telephone efficiently with the departmental greeting, take accurate messages, ensuring that they are passed on as quickly as possible in the absence of the solicitor. Making calls to clients etc.

·To file correspondence and documents each day returning the files to the cabinets.

·To complete accounts duties relating to client matters, eg completing solicitor timesheets, calculate client bills, organise paperwork for raising cheques and nominal expenses (ie travel claims), organise computer printouts from accounts, opening new files, closing files and arranging for storage in the strong room.

·To have a working knowledge of all files of the solicitor and be able to update clients on progress of a matter over the telephone.

·To deal with all enquiries made by a client within your capability in the absence of the solicitor.

·To record time spent of client matters when appropriate.

·To organise travel and accommodation arrangements on behalf of solicitor when necessary.

·To make appointments on behalf of the solicitor when requested and to service meetings including the booking of conference rooms and provision of refreshments for the solicitor and any visitors and clients.

·To liaise with other members of staff in setting up meetings, etc.

·To be prepared to cover for other secretaries' absence.

·To keep a record of general advice given to clients on WP to be attached with all invoices.
