An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Credit Controller to join the London Borough of Hackney.

The wsuccessful candidate will provide information and advice about all aspects of rent and other charges due to Hackney Council, in order to maximise payments and minimise arrears and to take appropriate action to recover new debts and cases at the early stage of the arrears procedure.

Main duties:

To provision local out of reach services to support individuals to meet their identified outcomes as identified in their care and support plan

To assist service uses to develop a vision for their preferred lifestyle, using relevant person centred tools

To negotiate packages that meet individual needs but are affordable and appropriate

To ensure best use of resources to achieve value for money

To ensure all pre-purchasing processes have been completed prior to commission services and identifying funding sources are in place for individual purchasing agreements

To record service and financial information in relation to commissioned services and future spend commitments

Essential Skills & Experience needed:

Must have an understanding of housing and welfare benefits in relation to income and rent collection as well as an understanding of rent procedures for all types of tenancies and income

Should be able to plan and prioritise own workload to meet individual deadlines and performance targets

Have the ability to work as part of a team with a diverse workforce

Experience of customer facing role, with good interpersonal skills

Ability to answer telephone queries effectively, and to take clear and accurate messages

Good communications skills both verbal & written

Ability to work within data protection legislation, confidentiality rules and council policy

Experience of working within Social Care, Health or independent social care sector

Job Requirements:

Educated to A Level Standard

Applicants must have a minimum of 2 years recent experience working within the same or similar capacity

GCSE mathematics and English – Grade C or above, or equivalent

Good ICT skills, in particular typing/Word

Relevant previous administrative experience with demonstrable aptitude for a higher level
