Job Title: Teaching & Welfare Assistant

Reports to: Head Teacher/Deputy Head

Job Purpose

To support the class teacher

To contribute to the welfare environment of the school

Responsibilities (Teaching Assistant)

1.To work under the direction of the class teacher to assist with administrative, organisational, teaching and assessment tasks as required.

2.To accompany the class on school outings.

Responsibilities (Welfare)

1. Maintenance of first aid boxes and medical equipment throughout the school.

3.Maintenance of school medical records of pupils

4.Monitoring individual health plans devised by health professionals for children with specific illnesses.

5.Liaising with health professionals, parents and staff as needed.

6.Maintenance of staff first aid training records.

7.Contributing to health promotion as part of our PSHEE programme.

8.Administering first aid and carrying out basic health screening checks.

Responsibilities (General)

1.Behave professionally at all times and maintain confidentiality of information

2.Be aware of and follow the school’s policies, especially those relating to safeguarding & child protection, behaviour and health & safety.

3.Operate safely within the workplace and maintain a high standard of practice.

4.Attend any meetings and training which are necessary to enable you to fulfil your duties.

5.Assist with break-time duties as directed by the Deputy Head.

6.Perform such other duties as the Headmaster may reasonably require from time to time and are compatible with your role.

Time Allocation

Your normal hours of work will be 8.15am – 4pm. This will consist of approximately 80% of the time allocation as a teaching assistant and 20% allocated to welfare duties.

Person Specification

The post holder will:

·Have a level 3 qualification and be qualified in first aid

·Be flexible (very important in a small school setting) and a good team player

·Be committed to safeguarding and equality of opportunity for our pupils

·Be computer literate.

·Be enthusiastic, well-organised and able to foster a safe and positive learning environment

·Be punctual and reliable

·Be committed to developing best practice and professional development

·Have a good sense of humour and contribute to the friendly, family atmosphere of the school community.

Salary

TBC according to experience. This is a full-time, permanent post, which includes paid holidays.
