Junior Database Administrator

Location: Sandy, Bedfordshire

Kier Group plc is seeking a Database Administrator to join our DBA IT Team based in Sandy, reporting to the DBA Team Leader.

Responsibilities:

* Act as a technical member within the Database team
* Play a role in implementing optimised processes and management practices that result in a Database function that is reliable, scalable, secure, efficient, well controlled and documented, adhering to ITIL best practices
* Ensure databases and database infrastructure is managed, supported and maintained using standard/scalable approaches
* Ensure the delivery and technical support of products, applications and services meet the agreed service levels and standards for the environment
* Identify opportunities to improve services, processes, mitigation of risks, cost and efficiency

Experience:

* Installation, configuration, maintenance and support of Databases including infrastructure
* Offer senior technical expertise within the Database team for the resolution of all Database technical incidents and problems
* Make a significant contribution in delivering continual tangible and measurable benefits and value in terms of improving customer service & satisfaction and operational efficiency, whilst reducing risk and operational costs to minimal levels
* Proactively identify opportunities and create and deliver robust business case proposals to improve reliability, stability and efficiency
* Instigate and orchestrate complex changes to infrastructure and systems, in line with change control processes
* Facilitate and typically lead, the delivery of medium/large technical projects and complex work packages
* Support, coach and mentor more junior members of the Database team, leading by example and deputising where required
* Contribute with ideas and suggestions on continuous service improvement

Understanding and expertise including but not limited to:

* MS SQL Server technologies

* MS Windows Server
* Performance monitoring and troubleshooting
* Failover Clustering
* SSIS
* TSQL Scripting
* Significant experience supporting large/enterprise level infrastructures
* Industry recognised qualifications including but not limited to Microsoft Certified(MCSA, MCSE)
