Graduate Learning Support Mentor - Pupil Premium

  • Ideally Russell Group graduates with core subjects, others considered with experience

  • Supporting students who have Pupil Premium funding

You will be working under a dedicated Senior Leadership Team, supporting the progress and attainment of the pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds. These students have access to additional funding due to low socio-economic backgrounds, and have additional academic, social and personal needs to thrive in school. Day-to-day, you will be assisting the successful inclusion of these pupils within the school by supporting the work of the subject teachers. With training, you will be able to identify relevant actions and support measures to ensure the progress of these pupils. In this role, you will be offering 1:1 or small group core subject support in all Key Stages.

The successful candidate will have a minimum of a 2:1 in their degree, preferably from a Russell Group university. To ensure the best outcomes, the ideal candidate will demonstrate an ability to develop and maintain effective and supportive mentoring relationships. You will need to be highly organised and have a strong attention to detail, in order to plan individual and group mentoring programmes which provide a range of strategies that will motivate, challenge and empower further learning and will help children to make positive changes. Some students will display challenging behaviour and may well be disengaged from most of their studies, so you will need to be able to think on your feet and remain empathetic to the environmental factors that may have an effect on their attitudes and behaviours.

The school is a large, vibrant secondary school, located in the Sandwell area, very close to Smethwick train station and is easily accessible by public transport. The school has onsite parking for all staff if you are driving to school.
