The North region Group Personal Accident and Business Travel team are looking to fill an Underwriting role, operating from the most appropriate location to meet business needs in line with customer demand (i.e. branch (Leeds or Manchester, home or broker location). This role is a Grade D level role and reports directly to the Specialist Lines Underwriting Manager.

The Team

The regional Group Personal Accident and Business Travel team are responsible for underwriting and client servicing of a multimillion pound Group Personal Accident and Business Travel portfolio. The teams currently operate out of three trading locations across the UK and business is predominantly transacted via Insurance Brokers.

The Person

As a Senior Group Personal Accident and Business Travel Underwriter with Aviva, you?ll provide a first class service to our customers/brokers. You?ll drive new business and professional relationships, directly contributing to the underwriting profit and loss, trading and service delivery goals. Acting as an ambassador for Aviva in the industry you?ll promote and grow business at industry and external professional level. You will act as the technical expert within the team.

Duties & Responsibilities
?Provide quotations for renewals, new business and alterations whilst operating within agreed guidelines and authority levels.
?Build strong relationships with internal and external customers and brokers to deliver the underwriting strategy.
?Actively increase your level of technical knowledge through achievement of Personal Development Plans.
?Contribute to improving the efficiency within the team through Systems Thinking methodology and by utilising our digital trading platforms wherever possible.
?Act as the technical expert within the team and be a role model, coaching and mentoring less experienced members of the team to drive continued capability improvement in our business.
?Leads the team in the absence of the Specialty Lines Underwriting Manager and provides support to the UK Group Personal Accident and Business Travel Manager reviewing and reporting the team performance and uses this understanding to successfully manage and develop relationships to grow the portfolio.
?Stays abreast of current sales campaigns, developments and trends in the industry
?Leads the region proactively and continually to increase the level of customer protection across Group Personal Accident and Business Travel and non-Group Personal Accident and Business Travel lines of business.
?Work to identify, proposing and delivering changes to systems, ways of working, policy wordings, supporting underwriting documentation and underwriting guidelines.
?Uses knowledge of Aviva?s products to proactively tailor an insurance solution, anticipating objections and provide effective responses, emphasising positive messages and key benefits
?Understands the competitive offerings within the marketplace and can explain and negotiate our product differentiators

Skills & Experience required
?A detailed knowledge of Group Personal Accident and Business Travel Insurance, with Group Personal Accident and Business Travel underwriting experience.
?ACII or similar qualification is preferential.
?Experience of applying underwriting knowledge to effectively improve processes/procedures.
?Experience of being responsible for own underwriting caseload within a regulatory environment, following due process and within set authority limits.
?Ability to analyse complex information and draw out the relevant facts.
?Strong attention to detail.
?Excellent business development/customer engagement skills in order to influence key contacts in the marketplace.
?Familiarity with the relevant departmental and Aviva-wide policies, procedures and guidelines
?Working knowledge of a range of standard computer software, e.g. Microsoft Office, email and ability to utilise same to enhance services.
