Operating within the electronics manufacturing industry from an extensive assembly and design facility close to Gatwick Airport, ISM has been a world pioneer in Integrated security solutions since 1989; the UK's leading developer of integrated security management software, intercom and cell call systems.
Begin a new career in Software and earn a place in one of the leading Security firms.
An apprenticeship with ISM would offer the right candidate an excellent view into the IT industry and a good starting point for a career in software development or quality assurance. Not only is Genesys itself an incredibly interesting and powerful product, but the development environment is also always ever changing with new devices and challenges showing up on a regular basis.
What you will be doing...
At a beginning level - for the first 3-6 months - an apprentice would mostly be responsible for learning how the system works and assisting with manual testing of the Genesys product. This will give the successful candidate a strong understanding of how our company operates, how each department operates with each other, but most importantly it will give a candidate a great idea of how Genesys works, including how it works behind the scenes.
Option 1 --- After this period, where the candidate goes depends on where they feel they'd like their career to go. An obvious path is that of quality assurance and testing; this would take the next step from assisting in manual testing to running manual tests themselves. Beyond this they would be responsible for creating their own test scripts; developing them from feature specifications, developer notes and their own knowledge of the system. This would hopefully develop further into managing and creating automated testing scripts, ensuring the highest quality of software before it is released, and even developing testing solutions using C#.
Option 2 --- A second path is software development. An apprentice would supplement their ongoing understanding of programming languages with mentoring from more experienced software developers. They will additionally learn about good how to go about fault fixing, coding standards, version control, software architecture and much more. More importantly the apprentice would get involved in small, low-intensity development projects that will build and improve their development skills with a view to being further involved in the development team in the future. ISM is an entirely C# house, so a C# track course would be required (we don't do anything with Java).
- Enthusiasm for Software
- Keen to learn
- Qualification or experience in Software Development
The candidate will have at least 5 GCSE's including Maths and English with interest to go on QA's Infrastructure Technician Level 3 apprenticeship programme.
Benefits & Rewards:
Potential full time role at the end of the apprenticeship
