About the Role
Are you looking for an opportunity to start or develop your career in parking?
Surrey County Council is the Highway and Traffic Authority for the County of Surrey which has some of the busiest roads in the country. It is responsible for managing the road network including on street parking. Effective parking controls help keep traffic moving and allow better access to shops/businesses and other facilities.
Each year we receive thousands of requests to change parking controls from surrey residents, councillors, businesses, developers and the emergency services. The Surrey Highways Parking Team assesses these requests and prioritises those to be implemented through our parking review process.
We are looking for someone who can work in team assessing requests for new parking restrictions and responding to enquiries about parking. You will need to be able to communicate well with the public, councillors and colleagues across the council. Your work will also involve liaising with our parking enforcement colleagues and helping to produce contract documents to implement new parking restrictions. The post is mainly office based but requires site meetings so a driving licence is essential.
Training and career development opportunities could be available for a motivated candidate.
To be shortlisted for interview your CV and personal statement will clearly evidence:
- Preferably experience but otherwise knowledge of legislation, principles and practices relating to parking schemes.
- Ability to respond to and resolve enquiries and problems, judging when to pass on complex queries or involve others.
- Able to prioritise and plan own workload in the context of conflicting priorities and work on own initiative.
- Good written and oral communication skills with the ability to build sound relationships with customers.
- Good administrative, analytical and organisational skills.
