Multi-skilled Maintenance Engineer (Electrical Bias), Wigan

We are seeking applications from suitably qualified and motivated individuals for the post of Multi-skilled Maintenance Engineer. The ideal candidate will be part of a team of Maintenance Fitters & Electricians for the delivery of a responsive and effective engineering service to production and site operations. The goal of the right candidate would be to continuously develop and maintain own knowledge of equipment and systems to meet changing technology and customer needs.

Post: Full time and permanent

Salary: £27,367 - £32,775 (competitive and includes shift allowance)

Hours: 38 hours per week/3 shift pattern 6am-2pm, 2pm-10pm, and 10pm-6am

Probationary period: 6 months

Key tasks and responsibilities:

  • Carrying out reactive and proactive maintenance to all site plant and equipment.
  • Resolving equipment failures and carrying out planned and unplanned engineering tasks in a responsive and effective manner. Adherence to IKO Safety Health & Environmental policies and procedures and carry out all tasks in a safe and controlled manner.
  • Pro-active team working with peers, production, quality and support groups to improve equipment reliability and performance.
  • Repairing and maintaining equipment so as to provide best possible equipment availability for delivering production and business needs.
  • Taking personal accountability for providing a responsive and effective service.
  • Actively support engineering improvements and changes to maintain and enhance our competitive edge within the group of companies and business competitors.
  • Respond to breakdowns, systematically fault find, and identify root cause and then implement solution to prevent recurrence.
  • Carry out planned maintenance and identify continuous improvements to increase equipment efficiency.
  • Work with production, support groups and suppliers to implement improvement opportunities to increase equipment efficiency and safety and reduce engineering downtime.
  • Identify and implement improvements to equipment to increase process robustness and reliability
  • Decisions on quick fix/permanent solutions.
  • Decisions on prioritisations when managing multiple requests for engineering support.

Qualification Knowledge, skills and experience required:


  • Recognised Electrical Apprenticeship to minimum of NVQ level 3 or equivalent.
  • ONC/NVQ or equivalent in Electrical Engineering.
  • Post apprenticeship work experience as a maintenance engineer in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience of fault finding diagnostics.
  • Experience of pneumatics, hydraulics and process control systems.


  • Relevant H & S awareness/training.
  • Electrical/Mechanical Multiskilling training.
  • Experience of fault finding diagnostics.
  • HNC or equivalent in Electrical Engineering.
