Our client, one of the world?s most prestigious luxury OEM?s, is looking to recruit a contract Mechanical Design Engineer for Special Vehicle Projects. This team produces low volume and one off vehicles and race cars for clients and for prestigious events such as the Le Mans 24 hour race.

The Design Engineer will work, with the minimum of supervision, on the realisation of body interior component design & package on all aspects of interior components of future vehicle platforms to produce finished detailed CAD designs and drawings. This role also requires some level of project engineering responsibility.

Responsibilities include:

  • Generation of innovative design and engineering solutions ?CAD design and modelling of interior trim components to meet vehicle style and package constraints. ?Management of created CAD into TCE ensuring all model attributes are completed ?Preparation of detailed drawings to company drafting standards including identification of SC?s/CC?s, reference points and individual part tolerances ?Preparation and support of engineering release packs ?Work under the direction of lead project engineer/Senior Engineer on a day to day basis ?Use TCE to review and present design concepts cross functionally ?Where necessary, support Design technical reviews. ?Where necessary, support and/or investigate resolution of build issues during pre-production builds and launch phase.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent within an engineering related discipline with automotive experience in component design. ?Knowledge of interior trim components, Carpets, plastic injection moulding components, Vac formed parts, S-RIMM, machined metal products and metal bracketry etc. Knowledge of leather trimming and mechanism systems would also be advantageous. ?Good knowledge of GD&T. ?Proficient CAD user with NX experience ?A working knowledge of component manufacturing, tooling requirements & lead times. ?Proficient in the use of Microsoft Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint. ?The ideal candidate will be a focused, highly motivated, results orientated individual who works well under pressure autonomously and can work to a given deadline. ?Ability to work well within a team environment is essential. ?Driving licence, Medical clearance to drive company vehicles.
