Technical Support Solutions Workshop Manager- RAF Lyneham - Wiltshire

A brand new and exciting opportunity has arisen for a Technical Support Solutions Workshop Manager to work for a FTSE 100 company based in MOD Lyneham in Wiltshire. The role will report to the Equipment Support Manager.

Main Tasks

  • To have overall responsibility for managing the TSS Workshop, all aspects of Staff work, H&S, production, inspection,servicing and manufacture work, ensuring all such activities comply with relevant regulations, legislation and Babcock Policies in support of the Defence College Technical Training Electro Mechanical Training Contract (DCTT EMTC) delivery.
  • To have overall responsibility for all aspects of Workshop Operation and Production adhering to Statutory, Service legislation, MOD Policies and in accordance with the DCTT EMTC Statement Of Requirement (SOR) highlighting any potential areas of non conformance to the ESM
  • To have overall responsibility for planning & prioritising the equipment servicing, maintenance and inspection workload so as to minimise any disruption to training, ensuring availability of resources to meet training requirements in accordance with the SOR
  • To advise the ESM of required Unit Equipment Care Directive (UECD) amendments, assist the ESM with the implementation of a Land Equipment Assurance (LEA) Action Plan within 7 days of the Inspection
  • To conduct and record workshop meetings as required, attend meetings and support visits/presentations as directed by ESM

Qualifications and Requirements

  • NVQ/C&G L3 with significant experience within an engineering discipline - Essential
  • HND/HNC/ONC or equivalent in a Mechanical Engineering discipline - Essential
  • Significant line management training and experience - Essential
  • Experience of Quality Assurance and writing technical documentation - Essential
  • Safety Officer or civilian equivalent to minimum IOSH Managing Safely- Essential
  • Significant experience of assessing and generating Risk Assessments - Essential
  • Computer literate (Excel/Word/Access) - Essential
  • Quality Systems Practitioner/civilian equivalent to ISO/BSI standard trained - Desirable
  • Full Licence C&E (Unrestricted) and Cat H - Desirable
  • IOSH Managing Safely certificated - Desirable

Skills Profile

  • Significant management experience within a REME Workshop/LAD or civilian equivalent
  • Management experience of engineering workshop systems
  • Significant management experience of workshop personnel and administration
  • Excellent communication abilities
  • Experience of BSS5750/ISO 9000 systems
  • Management of Health and Safety
  • Business management experience is not essential but experience in management of military style projects and contracts is preferred
  • Experience in provision of military training and support is preferred
  • Ability to lead and manage change
  • Ability to identify key challenges and implement timely action to achieve the desired output
  • Understands the customers key requirements
  • A financial awareness and the ability to maximise operational efficiency
