Think Specialist Recruitment are pleased to be working with a financial services business based in Watford looking to recruit an Underwriter to join their expanding teams. Having grown rapidly in the last few years and with ambitious plans to continue their expansion, this is an exciting time to join their business! We are seeking candidates with previous underwriting experience (or financial services/administration background looking to secure an underwriting role), a keen eye for detail and excellent decision making ability.

Duties to include:

  • Responsible for effective risk-based underwriting activities in line with the company's lending policies
  • Reviewing applications that have not been automatically passed through credit checks
  • Ensuring that applications are underwritten in accordance with the company's credit and risk criteria
  • Assessing risk of finance against customer credit information
  • Evaluating accuracy and authenticity of application details
  • Validating applicant's identity where required
  • Ensuring that credit applications are decisioned in an accurate and timely manner making full use of all systems and processes available
  • Providing internal and external customers with a professional and efficient service in an enthusiastic and knowledgeable manner to maintain and develop business relationships

Candidate requirements:

  • Previous underwriting experience desirable
  • Previous financial services/administration experience essential
  • Inquisitive and analytical mind with a keen eye for detail
  • Ability to make sound risk based lending decisions
  • Ability to act decisively and use sound judgement
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements (Consumer Credit Act, Anti Money Laundering, Data Protection, Treating Customers Fairly)
  • Self motivated with strong business and organisational skills and the ability to prioritise
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Knowledge of the Consumer Credit industry beneficial but not essential
