A leading public sector organisation based in Glasgow city centre & Edinburgh require a Database Administrator or Data Engineer to join their team on a permanent basis. The role can be based in either location. They use many bespoke software applications and are flexible on background.
Your new role
Monitor and manage the various Database Management Systems in use in, ensuring that they are operating efficiently and according to service level agreements (SLAs).
Monitor, maintain and manage the different replication software in order to replicate data across databases and database types
Work in conjunction with IT colleagues to ensure correct and optimal operation of databases and their hosting servers
Provide technical and operational assistance to consultants, contractors and colleagues in relation to all database related activity in order to meet agreed service levels
Carry out proof of concept work to evaluate and assess impact of installing new DBMS versions and upgrades for future use.
Apply relevant patches, updates, fix packs and configuration parameters to ensure database management systems are at supported levels and secure
Create automated scripts and jobs in order to carry out routine tasks quickly and effectively
What you'll need to succeed
A high level of knowledge in relevant DBMS including SQL query optimisation and system management skills in MS SQL Server
A high level of knowledge of the Windows operating system and Windows scripting
A high level of knowledge of relational data management theory
A sound knowledge of the development lifecycle
A sound knowledge of database replication software and DR solutions.
Experience in SQL installation and configuration, data migration, patching, licences, administration and maintenance.
