My client is a registered charity and have been working with children and young people in some of the most disadvantaged areas of Manchester for over 40 years. They believe the integration of play, confidence building, and education within an informal and supportive environment provides a genuine opportunity for early intervention with children and young people who are at risk of falling outside mainstream services and becoming involved in anti-social and risky behaviours.
Main purpose of the job
  • Work with young people to identify and remove barriers to participation
  • Motivate and inspire young people to achieve their potential
  • Plan and organize personal development activities such as sports, creative arts and education based activities for young people
  • Provide leadership and support to young people to promote engagement and inclusion

Main Tasks

  • Encourage and support young people to get involved in youth work activities, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds during school holidays, evenings/weekends
  • Make sure young people are safe at all times following safeguarding and risk management policies and procedures
  • Work closely with partner organisations such as schools and sports clubs
  • Plan and participate in residential trips and social events with young people
  • Work closely with volunteers and other staff members to deliver sessions, including setting up and managing youth forums
  • Work to project targets set out in funding agreements
  • Encourage young people to get involved in positive activities including volunteering opportunities and community decision making e.g. youth panels
  • Write clear records of sessions worked and contribute to wider project monitoring and evaluation
  • Provide administration support as required including designing promotional materials and online communication to tell people about my client
  • Act as a role model at all times in and outside of work
  • Work within a culture of equal opportunities and celebrate diversity
  • To have regular planning and progress meetings with supervisor/ assessor
  • Attend and contribute to team meetings

  • Able and committed to meeting deadlines while maintaining high standards
  • Positive attitude to working with young people; especially those who may be disadvantaged and or with special needs and barriers to participation
  • Willing to work with groups who present challenging behaviour, special needs, learning difficulties and or disabilities

  • Good organisational skills
  • Good level of emotional intelligence and resilience
  • Good time-keeper, reliable and able to work flexibly
Qualifications required
  • A*-C grade GCSE in Maths & English or equivalent is desirable for this role, support can be provided

  • Various shifts including evening and weekends.
  • Total hours per week: 35.00

  • £140.00
