Your new school
Manchester based primary pupil referral unit (PRU) are looking for a dedicated specialist teacher who has previous experience working with pupils with special needs and challenging behaviour. The school are looking for a creative teacher who is experienced in working with pupils with challenging behaviour. We are looking for an experienced teacher with a passion for education and for their own professional development. The ideal candidate will be ready to hit the ground running as part of a dynamic and forward thinking team. Restraint training is preferable but not essential
The role has been created, due to expansion within the team, due to an increase in pupil numbers. The role will start on a temporary basis, however it has a high chance of turning into a permanent contract.This PRU specialises in catering for primary aged pupils who have a statement and have been permanently excluded from mainstream school. Many of the pupils have social, emotional and behavioural difficulties (SEMH). Every class has TA support and some pupils will have additional 1:1 TA's. The school has an enthusiastic team of staff who are committed to improving the learning and development of pupils in the primary phase.
Your new job
As a primary teacher in the PRU, your job will be to teach pupils across the primary phase in KS1 & KS2. You will be working with small groups of pupils to enhance their learning and academic development. You will also work closely with the class TA and 1:1 TAs. You will be expected to deliver the national primary curriculum and ensure that all pupils understand and engage with the tasks set. Your job as the class teacher will also involve the maintenance of a safe and secure environment for the children to learn in. Your role will involve supporting students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and social emotional mental health (SEMH) therefore experience of this is essential.
What you'll need to succeed
Ideally you will be a qualified primary teacher, however secondary teachers will be considered if you hold primary experience. You will also have experience of working with SEN or SEMH pupils. You must be passionate about supporting the needs of children with SEMH and SEN.
