Job Description - Unqualified Nursery Practitioners (apprentices)

Job purpose Summary

To provide and create a stimulating and educational environment for all children in order for every child to be happy and have opportunities to learn and develop. Following the School’s policies and procedures and understand, whilst learning and implementing the Montessori philosophy.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Act in a professional manner and as an ambassador for nursery at all times.
  • As an Early Years Practitioner, you should be proactive and show the use of initiative through all tasks undertaken.
  • To work consistently as a team within the whole school
  • Ensure the opening and closing checklists are completed and any actions reported to your line manager.
  • To follow and adhere to OFSTED statutory requirements and EYFS guidance, including professional development.
  • Remain self aware of and have the ability to evaluate and reflect on your own practice on a continuous basis.
  • Maintain compulsory training as well as ad hoc training when required.
  • Carry out any reasonable jobs given to by your line manager or above.

Knowledge and skills required

  • Good communication skills, written and verbal
  • Passion for the education of children
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills, with attention to detail
  • Self-motivated
  • Able to work on own initiative but also within a team

Qualifications - Essential

  • Experience with children preferred and passion for children. No qualifications required. Own children or babysitting experience will suffice
  • Paediatric First Aid Certificate
  • Safeguarding (Can be obtained within probationary period if needed)
  • Relevant ½ or 1 day courses to keep knowledge fresh and up to date

  • Relevant 2 - 5 day training courses, that enhance professional learning and development, which could include:
  • Behaviour Management Training
  • Makaton (Relevant signing/speech and language course) Training
  • Fire Marshall Training
  • Lead Safeguarding training (4 Stage process)
  • Qualifications - Desirable

    All of the above plus:

  • Relevant courses that last in excess of 6 weeks and enhance your professional learning and development, which could include:
  • Senco Training
  • Montessori Diploma
  • Team Leading and/or Management NVQ
  • Montessori Principal
