SEND Teaching Assistant
Your new school
Manchester based secondary SEND school are looking for a dedicated specialist teaching assistant who has previous experience working with SEN pupils. The role will start on a temporary basis, for the remainder of the academic year. This SEN school caters for pupils with autism and behaviour needs. Every class has TA support and some pupils will have additional 1:1 TA's. The school has an enthusiastic team of staff who are committed to improving the learning and development of pupils.
Your new job
As a teaching assistant, your job will be to support pupils across the primary phase in KS1 & KS2. The role will be providing general classroom support in KS3 and KS4 so you must be comfortable supporting this age range. As well as general classroom support there may be times when you are needed to work with SEN pupils on a one to one basis. The work of a teaching assistant can vary greatly depending on where they are working and the individual needs of the pupils. This could include: * Assisting with pupils' physical needs, including hygiene and feeding, as well as assisting with therapy sessions
* Helping with pupils' school work under the supervision of an SEN teacher
* Helping pupils increase their confidence, self-esteem and independence
* Helping pupils who have difficulty communicating with others, including those whose first language is not English
* Effectively managing behaviour and implementing behaviour strategies as laid out by the class teacher
What you'll need to succeed
Ideally you will have a level 3 qualification (NVQ or equivalent) in Supporting Teaching and Learning as well as recent and relevant experience in a similar role. You will also have experience of working with SEN pupils. You must be passionate about supporting the needs of children and be confident in working with children.
