Director of Finance and Resources position based in Plymouth, responsible for the day to day financial management of the organisation, with responsibility for managing the Finance, IT and Facilities departments. Client Details Our client is a well known charity, based in an idyllic setting in Plymouth. The organisation are leaders in their field and passionate about what they do. Please note, our clients offices are based in Plymouth, which is commutable from Totnes, Exeter, Torquay, Exmouth, Launceston, St Austell, Newton Abbott, Bodmin etc. Description The key responsibilities for the Director of Finance and Resources are: 1. Strategic Leadership - As a member of the Senior Management Team (SMT), take part in and share responsibility for the strategic management and control of the organisation and related operations. - Participate fully in the Senior Management Team for the efficient and smooth running of the organisation to ensure the organisation delivers to the the highest possible standards. 2. Financial leadership - Support the development of new projects and the review of existing operations through financial modelling of the costs and benefits - Report to the SMT and the Board of Trustees on the impact of investment in service development - Take a proactive role in identifying opportunities to improve organisational efficiency and effectiveness in order to deliver a higher quality of service at lower cost - Involvement at the planning stage in the development of new projects or services to ensure full financial modelling has taken place to assist colleagues in making the right decisions based on financial viability - Prepare and support the preparation of business plans, financial information, and funding applications for presentation to external parties - Provide sound financial advice in written or oral form to support other members of the SMT and to the Board of Trustees. - Act as the leading interface between management and trustees on financial matters, and interpret routine and ad hoc management reports and information at appropriate levels for operational areas and for Trustees - Support all areas of operation through the provision and interpretation of relevant and timely management information. - Review income and expenditure details and monitor performance against budgets and forecasts with all SMT members, providing a healthy challenge and practical support. - In liaison with other senior members of staff, produce an annual budget for submission to Trustees, then monitor, report and advise on the performance of the charity against budget. - Provide rolling forecasts and 5 year projections - Establish and monitor reliable systems of appropriate controls which both contribute to the sound financial management of the organisation and any subsidiary companies - Ensure the integrity of all financial systems, financial information, reports and accounting data - Ensure compliance with requirements of the Charity Commissioners and other statutory or regulatory bodies - Plan and manage the charity's tax liabilities under existing and proposed legislation. 3. Company Secretarial and Governance - Undertake the role of Company Secretary, managing the organisations legal requirements and ensuring statutory returns to governmental bodies (including the Charity commission, Registrar of Companies and Inland Revenue) are accurate and lodged in accordance with official deadlines - To support the CEO and Board to ensure that processes and systems are in line with good practice and meet our governance policy. - To be responsible for ensuring compliance with the companies and charities act 4. People Management - Provide leadership and management to the Finance and support departments - Ensure all direct reports, (3 Heads of Departments - Finance, IT and Facilities) are professionally reviewed and that reviews are an accurate reflection of performance. Profile The ideal candidate for the Director of Finance and Resources position: - A professional accountancy qualification - Educated to degree level or equivalent - Evidence of continuing professional development - Proven leadership, management and organisational skills in the areas of strategic planning and organisational development - Experience of business planning, strategic planning and service design/delivery - Post qualification experience working in a financial leadership role - Knowledge and experience of governance and quality assurance - Experience of managing a number of different functions (desirable) - IT literate with excellent knowledge of Microsoft packages in general. - Experience in the Charity sector (desirable) Job Offer By joining the charity as Director of Finance and Resources, you will receive the following: - A basic salary of £55,000 - £61,000 - Attractive pension / holiday - Free parking
