Graduate Highways Maintenance Engineer - Suffolk We are looking for two Graduate Highways Engineers to join our Client's team in Ipswich, Suffolk on an ongoing contract basis in the Maintenance team. This position is based in the Environmental Management team and is involved with carrying out Winter Maintenance & Cyclic Works, where you will assist in the programming, management and execution of winter maintenance treatments, routine and reactive drainage works, as well as soft and hard landscaping and maintenance needs. What's involved... - Contribute to the process of preparing programmes of planned maintenance of surface water drainage systems (i.e. road gullies, highway drains, catchpits, soakaways, gully connections, highway drainage ditches and small diameter culverts) by assessing and prioritising submitted schedules of identified scopes of work and their locations - Preparing programmes of planned infrastructure maintenance for soft landscaping (i.e. related to grass verges, weeds, hedges and trees) by assessing and prioritising submitted schedules of identified scopes of work and their locations - Provide a reactive maintenance response in accordance with the Highway Maintenance Operational Plan (HMOP), ensuring that the works are completed, the Insight database is updated and, where this has been generated via customer requests, ensure customer feedback is provided in an appropriate manner - Liaise with arborists/arboriculturalist, drainage service providers, temporary traffic management suppliers,and soft landscaping service providers - Give appropriate on-site direction and supervision to staff to ensure works instruction and health and safety compliance - Liaise with district and borough council for maintenance works - Assist in the co-ordinated response for and management of winter maintenance treatments, checking salt stock usage, residual salt levels in salt barns, the re-stocking of grit bins and grit heaps, the maintenance of winter gritter route records - Deal with members of the public in a professional manner as required - In the event of severe weather, provide support in normal hours and 'out of hours', including occasionally acting as one of the 'winter decision makers' and as a gritter driver's mate Skills/Qualifications: - HND/HNC in relevant highways (or civil) engineering discipline or equivalent level of knowledge and experience - IOSH certification or certification in site safety management (preferably holding NEBOSH certification) - Lantra 12d Traffic Management design qualification OR demonstrable equivalent experience - Preferably New Roads and Street Works Act accreditation. - Knowledge of winter maintenance, drainage and soft estate maintenance standards and techniques is ideal - Good working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, Insight and Works Manager software systems - Good knowledge of appropriate traffic management requirements, including the signing and guarding of highway works - Good knowledge of legislation relevant to soft estate, drainage and highway maintenance (particularly the Highways Act, the New Roads and Street Works Act and the Wildlife and Countryside Act); - Able to travel between offices and depots and through work sites throughout Suffolk - Ability to work on site and occasionally during unsocial hours If you are a Graduate Highways Engineer (or Technician, or potentially even a site based agent) based in Suffolk who is keen for a new challenge then apply with your CV today, or give us a call at the office!
