Based in Maidenhead the Senior Test Technician will work for a prestigious group that undertakes research and development projects which vary in scope and complexity and may involve the development  sorting machines, verification and other instruments or diamond-related processes. Â
The Senior Test Technician will be responsible for test work required in the manufacturing and support phases of these projects, to support machine build test programmes, to test and repair modules returned from the field and at customers locations, and to keep logs and records of returned items, fault trends and make any recommendations to the design teams.
The nature of the work in the Technologies department is such that a high degree of flexibility is required as the balance between the various elements of the role will vary considerably depending upon the lifecycle of the most intensive projects. Â
This will also be at times a customer facing role, requiring travel to customer sites around the world and the ability to liaise directly with Operations managers, local support staff and 3rd party customers is crucial to success.

The Senior Test Technician will be responsible for the test of components, PCB's, electronic assemblies and complete instruments prior to their assembly into a machine, instrument, or larger sub-system. Â The Senior Test Technician will also create process documentation, feedback to development teams and provide mentoring to junior technicians.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

Â
Prototype Support
Produce prototype PCBs, wiring looms and harnesses.
Test and commission prototypes, and pre-production machines.
Proofread and test commissioning and final test procedures.
Â
Test, Setup, Fault Identification and Commissioning
Commission and/or test newly assembled equipment to written procedures.
There may be occasional requests to perform test or commissioning work at group company sites overseas.
Lead continuous improvement or engineering changes required for test procedures.
Â
Return to base repair or upgrade of modules and instruments
Diagnose faults and carry out repairs in a structured way, including component level PCB repairs.
Keep records of faults and report on trends, making suggestions for improvements.
Upgrade modules or instruments with new hardware or software.
Co-ordinate return and repair logistics with other relevant staff within the Production department.

Remote and on-site service and support
Provide remote assistance to customers for fault identification and resolution where possible.
Co-ordinate spares requirements with the other relevant staff within the Production department.
Provide emergency support to any customer overseas sites as required, note that the ability to travel at short notice is important for this role.
Install new modules or instruments at customer's premises, also providing training to customers where required.

Documentation
Write procedural documents such as SOPs or Work Instructions.
Raise problem reports relating to product design or quality issues or the documentation produced by the Project teams
Â
Health and Safety
Write Safe Standards of Work and Risk Assessment documents.
Ensure own working environment and practices complies with all Legal and De Beers UK policy guidelines in relation to Health, Safety and Environmental issues.

 To be successful in the role the Senior Test Technician will have the following skills and experience

EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS:
Â
Good general education
ONC / HNC in electronics, systems or control
Â
TRAINING / EXPERIENCE: Â
Â
Experience in a Test and Service environment
Full familiarity with manual test equipment (oscilloscopes, meters, analysers etc.)
Ability to rework multilayer boards preferable
Computer literate, ability to create technical documentation / procedures
Conversant with computer programming fundamentals
Good team player
Good communicator with strong customer focus / service skills

Can expect up to 25% travel.
May be called upon to travel to remote locations at short notice due to equipment failure impeding production.
