Linux sysadmin / engineer - Junior to mid-level - 38k-40K Guildford

First launched in 2001, the company recognised a void in the availability of accurate and insightful news relating to open source security issues. This collaborative group devote their time to finding and publicising the latest security news and reports relevant to the Linux community.

Headquartered in Guildford, the team promote the general growth of Linux around the world. They are now looking for a PASSIONATE junior to mid-level Linux sysadmin to join their team!
You will receive a huge amount of support during this transition. They nurture a culture of learning, as can be evidenced by the Buddy system that you will be a part of from day one. You will be helped to learn, to increase seniority and to take on greater responsibility.

This is a junior to mid-level role assisting the team in the creation, implementation and support of their internal development systems and tools. These assist the deployment, development and support teams to build, test, deploy and maintain their products. Expect to have tasks around IT infrastructure, system administration, access & administration, Linux OS management and even some coding/scripting.

The primary requirement for this role is some form of experience as a Linux SysAdmin, in any flavour of Linux (Ubuntu, Centos, Redhat, Debian etc. are all fine). This experience could be commercial as part of a previous role, or it could be from a University course or work placement year. You should be comfortable building a Linux box and setting up an environment on top of this.

You will have some awareness of the use of virtualisation and its benefits. Although commercial experience provisioning virtual machines is not required, it would be beneficial.

Similarly, an interest in networks and network concepts is expected together with problem solving abilities to troubleshoot issues, this is not about configuring switches or routers but more about knowing where to look when things go wrong, in a structured manner.

Having had some experience with any of Perl, Bash, Python or Shell Script is required. You should be able to write basic scripts, and understand their use for automation and optimisation.

Finally, but importantly, we are looking for a passionate SysAdmin, who has an engineering mind-set and shows interest in and out of work: reading blogs, setting up your own servers, engaging in your own projects.

This is a role focused on learning. You will have the opportunity to gain a wide variety of skills around Linux, networking and scripting. During this time, you will make the jump to a more senior position, taking on increasingly complex and challenging tickets. The amount of project work will also increase, as well as DevOps work and DevSecOps.

With the feel of a start-up but the financial security of an established company, they offer a competitive salary and benefits package.

Those joining the business now will find not only unique challenges but also the impetus and investment needed to solve them. Everyone who works here holds an ethos of open communication and honesty.
