The Head of IT role

Our client is seeking to recruit a Group Head of IT who will partner with their business leaders to develop and execute an Information Technology (IT) strategy in support of their business goals.

Reporting to the MD, the incumbent is responsible for providing the thought and leadership for developing and implementing information technology initiatives that supports business development, drives automation, improves cost effectiveness, creates competitive advantage and continuously improves operational efficiency.

Head of IT Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Strong Leadership - Will be responsible for a number of staff and must be driven, assertion, and the ability to communicate at all levels. The incumbent should be prepared to manage resistance and importantly keep to strategic business goals.
  • Project Management - Develop detailed project plans, maintain responsibility for implementation and track progress.
  • Innovation - Evaluate / promote new software products, procedures and services to benefit the business and its customers.
  • Software Vendor Management -Work closely with the Group Applications Manager, 3rd Party Vendors and Consultants to ensure they deliver on their objectives and service levels.
  • Business Continuity - Work with other key stakeholder to ensure the business has a tested continuity plan in place to accommodate a disruptive incident.
  • Budget - Take full responsibility for the IT budget across the group.
  • Security & Data Protection - Implement and manage the security of the business IT Infrastructure and Systems, ensuring the data integrity. Work to introduce policies and procedures to enable the business to achieve ISO27001 accreditation and compliance of GDPR.
  • Licensing - Ensuring software licensing laws are followed

The ideal Head of IT will need the following Experience, Education and Other Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be a strong leader and will be able to provide evidence of transformation change in a previous position. As part of their ongoing growth it is important that they are willing to drive IT acquisition strategies.

  • Head of IT, IT Director or equivalent senior position, ideally at group level for a group structured organisation.
  • Solid technical background, with a good understanding or hands-on experience in the administration / management of IT Systems, Networks, Communications, Hardware and Software Applications.
  • Experience of strategy design and ownership, and driving IT acquisitions
  • A strong understanding of emerging technologies.
  • Demonstrable experience of managing suppliers and vendors effectively.
  • Experience of building relationships and managing senior stakeholders in challenging, evolving environments.
  • ITIL and Prince II certification or similar.
  • Degree educated, preferably to post graduate level.
