The salary range will be approximately 60,000 to 75,000 GBP plus a competitive benefits package and non-contributory pension.

Business and Technology Solutions (BTS) supports the FCA in managing the impact of such changes on the organisation, its processes and people. BTS continually scrutinises the way we work and drives change to ensure we continue to deliver our objectives in the most efficient and cost-effective way possible.

The Solution Delivery Solution Architecture team (SDSA), is one of the core pillars of SD, and consists of Solutions Architects, Data Architects and Infrastructure architects. It has responsibility for ensuring that technical solutions are of high-quality and complement the existing BTS estate.

The Solutions Architect is responsible for the overall solutions architecture, and has a quality assurance responsibility to ensure that the designs are in line with the architecture specified.

Typically, the Solutions Architect will have worked in large organisations and be experienced in working on a diverse range of projects and programmes. They will also have a broad range of architecture skills covering various architecture domains. For the current role the expectation is that Solutions Architect has a working experience with Salesforce case management platform. The role is to be a part of CDM (Continuous Delivery Model) team and provide an architectural oversight to the development and enhancement of solutions using Salesforce platform.

What does this job involve?The key responsibilities of the post holder will be:

  • Leading project solution architecture on various levels from high level outlined architecture to detailed architecture and in some cases high level design
  • Responsibility for the Solution Architecture Document and other architectural deliverables, supporting the Business Analyst in the production of Use Cases and Use Case model, supporting Data Architect in the production of data deliverables.
  • Solution governance and quality assurance including membership of various Technical Design Authorities
  • Review and quality assurance of the artefacts created by external suppliers and internal teams to ensure the quality of delivered solution to fulfil business requirements and adhere to strategic vision.
  • Collaborating with other elements within the Solution Delivery department and with all other IS functions, with the objective of delivering successful and predictable outcomes for projects they are assigned to.

  • Proven experience working as a solution architect
  • Experience of complex multi-system solution development projects with multi-dimensioned process and data requirements
  • Hands-on experience of working through the end to end project lifecycle
  • Familiarity with working with 3rd party or offshore suppliers to ensure the delivery of high quality designs that conform to the solution architecture define
  • Good overall knowledge of a broad range of technology and technology trends
  • Ability to work on-site full-time at the FCA offices
  • Ability to work as part of agile team
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills at all levels; both internally and externally

  • Technical background
  • A deep and up-to-date understanding of best practice application / solution architectures
  • Past experience of designing systems or components, ideally on large projects ( 5M+)
  • Working experience of architecting solution involving Salesforce platform
  • Relevant solution architecture skills (i.e. Data, Application, and Infrastructure), and a good understanding of architectural concepts, methodologies and mapping approaches
  • Experience in complex and significant Oracle (or similar for IBM, Microsoft) n-tier implementations
  • Experience with formal architectural methodologies and frameworks, including TOGAF
  • Experience in architecture modelling tools (EA Sparx, RSA etc)
  • Proficient knowledge of UML
  • Strong risk management skills to manage architectural risk through the project lifecycle
  • Demonstrate substantial experience in applying architecture principles to affect changes to a business environment
  • Sound commercial approach to identifying solutions
  • Desirable
  • A good understanding of the Financial Services Industry would be a bonus but is not a pre-requisite
  • A good understanding of architecting for Cloud
  • High-level data modelling understanding and experience
  • Experience of implementing frameworks such as TOGAF, Zachman, patterns, standards, guidelines and tools to be used for software architecture and then ensuring they are followed as well as experience producing RAID logs/risk registers and managing architectural risk through the project lifecycle
  • Experience with formal development methodologies (e.g. Prince2, RUP, Scrum)
  • Knowledge of Archimate
