A Global Financial Services organisation, currently has a requirement for an experienced UNIX Administrator to join their Global Infrastructure Services team. This is a permanent position based in Cheshire. About Infrastructure Services Infrastructure Services is a global team accountable for delivering and supporting resilient, secure infrastructure technology and services to customers, clients and colleagues. The UNIX Project Team is responsible for the management and resolution Change across the UNIX estate. This team sits within the wider Global UNIX team. Overall purpose of role The purpose of the role is to work as a System Administrator on the UNIX Projects Team, primarily working on the FAST CHANGE team which deals with high volume fast turn-around UNIX changes. Key Accountabilities and Skills required Technical Implementation - Technically proficient UNIX System Administrator, with strong understanding of end to end infrastructure technologies - UNIX (many variants) - Networks - Storage - Databases - Physical/Virtual Servers - Clustering - Security - Automation/Scripting/CHE - Manages escalations via Hotline and BCHAT Channel, escalating where appropriate - Demonstrates close attention to detail and professional discipline whilst achieving a high throughput of work. Hits agreed targets of work volume per week on sustained basis - Confident and prepared to address any UNIX issue regardless of variant. - Works closely within the constraints of Risk and Control procedures. - Ensures that all requests from customers for assistance are handled promptly and effectively. Is pro-active to ensure that users make effective use of the facilities available to them. - Configures the infrastructure environment to standards. Stakeholder management and leadership Technical Leadership - Taking ownership and showing stewardship when things are wrong, establishing a route forward and ensuring the whole team is up to speed with the issue. - Management of tasks and responsibilities to ensure the efficient running of Project delivery. - Direct and guide design less experienced technicians to ensure that infrastructure components are built and deployed in a consistent, simple and effective manner and that all infrastructure services comply with technical strategy and group policy. - Be developing the governance, technical authority, leadership and direction necessary for the resolution of infrastructure issues which have not been resolved adequately at the detailed design level. - Coach and develop the skills of other less experienced staff. - Builds relationships with internal clients, discuss and understand their infrastructure needs .both on a practical and commercial level. Provides input/influence to design activity. Decision making and problem solving - For all requests that cannot be directly resolved, provides an effective interface at the highest level between users and service providers; ensures that priority setting and escalation procedures are applied effectively and that all complaints are responsibly and professionally resolved. - Carries out fault diagnosis relating to moderately complex problems, reporting the results of such diagnosis in a clear and concise manner. Proficient in Infrastructure Platforms - The implementation and management of infrastructure platforms or components that host specific business applications or services. - Linux, AIX, Solaris Proficient in Networking and Communications - The planning and management of the interaction between two or more networking systems, computers or other "intelligent" devices. - Examples: Ethernet, TCP/IP, SSH. Proficient in Operating Systems - "System" software which controls activities such as input, output, dynamic resource allocation, and error reporting, within the operation of a computer configuration. - Examples: Linux, Solaris and AIX Proficient in Operating Infrastructure - Knowledge of the ICT infrastructure (hardware, databases, operating systems, local area networks etc) used within own organisation. **Should the above be of interest, please apply immediately to receive a more detailed job specification**
