Product Development Executive
Akton Recruitment are on the lookout for Product Development Executives in the Chiswick area - you will join the PD team and play an integral part in the product development process focusing on retail and direct to consumer products for a multiplatform consumer goods company, who have an annuel turn over of £60m+.
On a daily basis you will liaise with various stakeholders from suppliers, test houses and IP attorneys to the clients various internal departments and international divisions. Under the guidance of the Senior Product Manager, you will be responsible for taking ownership of assigned products from an early stage right up to being trialled. This will include aspects of product sourcing; generating cost sheets; functionally testing products; undertaking market research and competitor analysis; product certification and writing product briefs.
This is a challenging role which would suit someone with at least one year's experience in a similar field or with a relevant qualification. It is an exciting and diverse role which entails a combination of buying, product development, marketing and compliance. There are plenty of opportunities to grow in the role as the PD team is rapidly expanding.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Take ownership of assigned products and take them from an early stage to being ready for trial.
You will assess and test potential new additions to JML's exciting range of products. This will involve checking potential new lines for:
Functionality and whether they are fit for purpose.Legal compliance.Validity of selling features.Potential quality or safety issues.
Assisting with product sourcing.
Assisting with generation of cost sheets.
Undertaking market research and competitor analysis.
Assisting in the production of accurate, relevant and concise written reports on the above criteria which will be used as a basis for deciding whether to proceed with a product or not.
Assisting with the management of compliance certification and regulatory issues.
Liaising with suppliers from different countries and cultures.
Liaising with third party test houses for independent testing of products.
Product sample management and storage.
Working closely with the Creative and Production team to ensure they have accurate information to market the product.
Following up post sales trial to identify product defects and scope for product improvement.
Assist by producing accurate information for the PD Marketing Assistant to create monthly Product Decks for the business.
General support to line manager.
Attendance of weekly Product Development Team and relevant product Kick-Off meetings.
Attendance of meetings with suppliers and opportunities to visit tradeshows where appropriate.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND COMPETENCES
Ideally the candidate will be from a business, marketing or product related background or someone with previous experience or a candidate with a flair for product marketing who is highly organised and keen to take our products through the various stages of product development including product specifications. Candidates will need to demonstrate a relevant qualification or previous experience.
You will be a team player, quick learner and first-class communicator as you will be dealing with a wide range of stakeholders from suppliers in the Far East to local UK lawyers. Language skills are an advantage but not essential, as is the knowledge and understanding of our newly introduced ERP system, Dynamics 365.
