This role

We are looking to recruit an experienced Systems administrator to work within the team responsible for the implementation, operation, and support of the University's virtualisation platform which is hosted on VMware's vSphere 6 product.

The services that are hosted on this platform include Exchange email, Podcasting, HR, MyManchester, Components of Campus solutions, along with a large number of other services.

Specific role requirements

In addition to the Person Specification criteria detailed in this document the successful applicant must demonstrate high level technical knowledge and suitable practical experience in the following areas:
  • Extensive experience of VMWare technologies and a professional qualification in vSphere such as VCP.
  • 3rd line VMware vSphere support including experience of VRO, vRealize Log Insight, NSX and Veeam solutions.
  • 3rd line Windows 2008R2/Windows 2012 support and ideally Windows 2016 to MCSE level or equivalent
  • Experience with SQL Server 2012/2014/2016
  • IIS
  • Active Directory
  • Powershell
  • Infrastructure Monitoring using MS Systems Center

In addition to the above technical skills and knowledge, the post holder should have good communication skills, good planning skills, and the capability of operating both within a team and individual.
