This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the specialist education provision available for young people in Dumfries and Galloway.

Based in the Nithsdale SEBN team, you will teach and support primary-aged children who have social, emotional and behavioural needs (SEBN) to access education.

You will work with a team of other teachers as well as learning assistants to provide educational opportunities for children, including supporting them on an outreach basis in a mainstream school, and teaching children who access the support base. You will also work closely with mainstream school staff to help ensure children at risk of exclusion are supported to remain in mainstream settings where possible.

Applicants for teaching posts must be registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland, Clerwood House, 96 Clermiston Road, Edinburgh, EH12 6UT in the secondary sector. You will have experience of working with children with additional support needs (preferably SEBN). You will be flexible, enthusiastic and sensitive to pupil needs

This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.

Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.

This post is 0.8fte (4 days per week) and temporary until the end of June 2018. This post may be suitable for secondment. Agreement from your line manager must be sought before applying for this post.
