Confirmation of Vacancy 4054TPP Job Title: Production Engineering Manager JOB PURPOSE: This position holds a key role within the company Operations Management Team, contributing to the direction, development and strategies of the business. The Production Engineering Manager's primary role will be to manage and ensure all Production engineering functions are in accordance with company procedures, our directives and agreed Key Performance Indicators. Set challenging, value adding targets, report performance and provide best manufacturing practices in support of manufacturing and the supply chain. This job description does not form part of your contract of employment. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: - Manage daily scheduling workload priorities within P.E.D team. - Manage the cost estimating of new enquiries for optimum manufacture and ensure any manufacturing risks are identified. - Review and recommend plant improvement and modifications for optimised manufacture and improved efficiency. - Provide guidance and recommendations to Quality and Purchasing on outsourcing. - Monitor tooling and consumable spend and usage to ensure minimal obsolescence and stock. - Report monthly expenditure for inclusion at management meetings. - Evaluate and report on manufacturing non-conformance such as scrap and rework offering root cause and robust corrective actions. - Assisting sales and purchasing where necessary by liaising with customers and sub-contractors. - Ensure inclusion and team participation in product development and NPI (New Product Introduction) activities and make recommendations on Make / Buy options to ensure best manufacturing practices and value customer supply. - Ensure the Company ERP system manufacturing data is accurately maintained including Part detail, BOM's, Planning, Change note configuration control, work instructions Etc. - Monitor, review and implement process improvements to ensure margin cost is maintained / improved. - Ensure timely and conforming product manufacture with best resource and plant utilisation. - Develop a team approach to achieve agreed targets of quality, quantity, cost and on-time delivery. - Ensure housekeeping standards and health & safety regulations are adhered to. - Maintain discipline, wellbeing and morale across the team. - Identify training needs and set performance targets for the P.E.D team in accordance with our Partnership for Performance system. - As a key member of the Management Team, provide clear direction on achieving near term and long terms operational objectives and goals. - Ensure AS9100 and contract compliance through regular audit, review and corrective action management of all P.E.D functions. - Provide P.E.D representation at customer and other external engagements when required. - Encourage an open honest team-working based interaction with all reporting personnel KEY RELATIONSHIPS Internal: Operations: Procurement, Quality, Production Control, Shop Floor Personnel, Sales Design: Design Engineers, Project Managers, Programme Managers External: Suppliers & on occasion customers PERSON PROFILE The candidate should be numerate, literate, hardworking, organised and possess a pleasant overal manner with a methodical approach to their work. They should be able to work on their own initiative or as part of a team. EXPERIENCE / ACHIEVEMENTS Essential A minimum of 5 years within a production engineering role & further minimum of 5 years in a management role SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE Essential The following technical skills or understanding thereof, are required: - Experience & competence to ensure manufacturability of electro-mechanical designs - Ability to Analyse Current Designs for obsolescence and production improvements - Ability to define manufacturing criteria from top-level assembly, component drawings and specifications. - Ability to review and recommend inspection requirements to ensure product compliance with due consideration of the application and contractual demands. - Attention to detail essential with good keyboard skills. - Ability to work to deadlines and prioritise workload appropriately. - Methodical approach to their work. EDUCATION / TRAINING / QUALIFICATIONS - HNC / HND / Degree (or recognised equivalent) in a Mechanical/Electrical Engineering discipline. - Fully computer literate including as a minimum, detailed knowledge of Microsoft Office Suit, Solidworks Modelling.
