My client are a world renowned institution based in the heart of Oxford. They are currently seeking an IT Support Officer to join their small IT Support team and are keen to speak with IT Support Analysts who have experience supporting Linux, Mac and Windows environments. This unique role will see the IT Support Officer providing quality 1st, 2nd and 3rd line internal support. The IT Support Officer will be responsible for providing dedicated onsite support an engaging user base. This dynamic role is based in a convivial and friendly environment in a beautiful and historic Victorian building in the heart of the city of Oxford. Duties will include solving users’ problems, providing advice and guidance installing and configuring PCs and application software and carrying out office administration. Additional duties include monitoring and maintaining Linux and Windows servers and developing scripts for automating routine administrative tasks.

Skills/experience with the following are required for the IT Technician role:

  • Windows Server management and administration
  • Active Directory administration and management
  • Virtualisation with VMWare
  • Managing helpdesk tickets and prioritising workload
  • Knowledge of programming or scripting languages such as Powershell, Python or Perl
  • Knowledge of Linux OS and servers
  • Excellent Knowledge of Microsoft Windows.
  • Excellent knowledge of Apple Mac OS and iOS
  • Cisco networking and a thorough understanding of network design

  • The IT Support Officer will be responsible for the following:

  • Installation and configuration of PCs
  • To support computers and software
  • Providing support to users including computer maintenance, training and advice, in particular drop-in support and support for conferences/functions
  • To keep the student computer systems up-to-date and working including enforcement of the computer room rules.
  • To maintain virus-checking software and equipment and assist users with installation and updates.
  • To deal with malware and clean up suspected virus infections in a safe manner.
  • Assisting with other tasks such as network management, software deployment as required.
  • To maintain a database
  • To keep track and organise replacement of stocks of consumables including toner and ink cartridges.
  • To maintain information on the access control systems.
  • To produce and maintain on-line computing documentation for the web page.
